History
editThe Studios at the Sunset Marquis, later renamed NightBird, was created by songwriter, musician, and producer Jed Leiber (son of the late Jerry Leiber) in 1993 after he and famed guitarist Jeff Beck were writing and performing in a hotel room at the Sunset Marquis and received noise complaints. In response, the General Manager of the hotel, Rod Gruendyke, offered them the laundry room in the basement which became “a popular destination for rockstars”. Jed Leiber viewed this as an opportunity to construct a full-serviced recording studio in the underground garage of the hotel. Designed by Hollywood Bowl acoustician George Augspurger, NightBird has hosted sessions by artists ranging from Aerosmith to ZZ Top, and generates an average of 30 Grammy Award nominations each year.
