Article Evaluation for wikipedia article on Open data

  • This article is part of WikiProject Open, and is rated C-class. The article is also indicated as being of key importance to the project.
  • There are flags on this article indicating that it is still under construction, and needs more citations
  • This article did a good job of broadly addressing the topic, but there were several issues with citations and unsubstantiated claims. For instance, the paragraph addressing the challenges of Indigenous Knowledge in the context of an open data environment lacked any supporting sources.
  • This article does not seem fully "fleshed out" - I suspect partly because the concept of openness in data is still fairly new in academia
  • This article does not seem biased toward one point of view over another, and there is a well-written section giving an overview of the arguements for and against the use of open data methodology.
  • In addition to lacking citations, this article also had at least one non functioning citation. Footnote 7, which linked to https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/wdcmain.html a page on the US government site for the National Centre for Environmental Information, gives a 404 error when followed. However, provided the correct information was available, the NCEI would likely be a useful and appropriate source.
  • The talk page of this article has lots of interesting conversations, particularly in relation to what should be included under the umbrella of open data, versus having its own article.
