HiLite is a nationally recognized newsmagazine and website of Carmel High School. It is advised by Jim Streisel, an editor in chief (currently Victor Xu), and a group of managing editors. The staff consists of about 90 members.
Format
editThe HiLite releases 10 issues a year, including a senior issue at the end of the year, in newsmagazine format.
Acumen
editThe Acumen is a topically based supplement to the HiLite. It is released five times a year on a separate production cycle. Topics can include current elections, health and relationships.
Awards
editThe HiLite has accumulated many national awards. In 2012, Quill and Scroll, an international organization for high school journalists, awarded the HiLite with the George H. Gallup Award; it earned a superior rating in coverage, visuals and writing/editing. The Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) has awarded HiLite with numerous awards, including a Gold Medal rating, Gold Circle Awards and Crown Finalist. The National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) has awarded HiLite with the Pacemaker award multiple times, as well as naming it best in show in the newsmagazine category in the fall of 2012.
