This text will be utilised predominantly in the ‘Context and Influences’ section of this article. It provides an immense amount of information on the nature of the Victorian Era and how ideas such as the growth of materialism and the corruption of bureaucracy influenced the novel. It is clear that the author of this text is knowledgeable on Trollope’s work as he has written a separate novel on Trollope, ‘The Art of Anthony Trollope’.
