Rally For Kids With Cancer
editThe Rally For Kids With Cancer is a scavenger hunt that raises funds for children’s cancer research treatment at SickKids Hospital[1]. The goals of each event is to bring awareness to SickKids Hospital in the fight to end children’s cancer and to increase donations from corporations across Ontario. There are two premier rallies that make up the scavenger hunts that happens twice a year. The car rally fundraiser takes place across Toronto, Ontario in November[1]. The boat rally fundraiser is a summer event and happens in Muskoka, Ontario in July[2]. Each event attracts a number of high profile celebrities, corporate executives and event sponsors.
About The Founder
editThe founder and creator of The Rally For Kids With Cancer is Joel Hock[3]. Hock, a Toronto native, created an event around the idea of a car and boat rally to raise funds for various hospitals across Ontario. He wanted to create a high profile, fundraising event in support of children with cancer and approached the SickKids Hospital. The event has gained North American recognition as Hock produces the races across the United States as well.[3]

editCar Rally For Cancer
editThe Car Rally For Kids With Cancer Scavenger Cup, entering its ninth year, has raised over seventeen million dollars for children’s cancer research.[1] The scavenger hunt, located across Toronto, is based on the idea of the Amazing Race, where event participants take part in a two-day challenge. The event features exotic vehicles, famous celebrities and corporate sponsors that race around the city picking up clues on their way to their final destination.[1] Teams of five participants must raise a minimum $15,000 to qualify for the race[1]. Teams that raise a minimum of $25,000 get to race with a celebrity navigator[1]. Each year, on a weekend in November, the race involves fifteen to twenty celebrities from around the world that donate their time. [4] Clues and trivia questions are provided to each team as they travel around the city, visiting historic destinations and racing against other teams.
Boat Rally For Cancer
editThe Boat Rally For Kids With Cancer takes place on a weekend in July in Muskoka, Ontario.[2] This event is a scavenger hunt on water as teams race across Lake Joe and Lake Rosseau, in the heart of Port Carling Ontario. [2]Participants are equipped with clues and trivia questions as they race around the lake trying to get to the finish line. Clues are located in various spots around the lakes and teams have to race to solve their clues in order to move on to the next location. Teams must raise a minimum of $7,500 to enter a boat in the rally.[2] Teams that raise a minimum of $15,000 or more, have the opportunity to draft a celebrity participant.[2] The weekend is made up of three main events as part of the scavenger hunt. It includes a celebrity selection dinner, a brunch before the race begins and a barbecue gala dinner.[2] A percentage of funds raised go to Camp Oochigeas and SickKids Hospital in support of cancer research.[2] Camp Oochigeas is an overnight camp located in Muskoka and SickKids Hospital.[5]

editA number of celebrities participate in both the car and boat rally. Celebrities donate their time in support of kids with cancer. Celebrities that have participated in past years events include; William Baldwin, Wendell Clark, Catherine O’Hara, Jason Priestley, Damon Allen, Dale Hawerchuck, Darcy Tucker, Eva Longoria, Gene Simmons, and Goldie Hawn. Children Ambassadors
editFor every team that registers in either rally, a child ambassador becomes a team captain. These children have various forms of cancer and seek treatment at SickKids Hospital.[1][2]
Participant Information
editCar Rally
editIn order to qualify for the car rally, participants must be 19 years of age or older.[1] The rally requires a $200 registration fee per person and fundraising for this event takes place through an online process[1]. A person can register as an individual participant or as a team. Any participant can be added to a team at any time.[1]
Boat Rally
editThe Boat Rally For Kids With Cancer requires participants to register online.[2] Team captains create their teams online by inviting their friends and family’s to join their teams and fundraise through a team page[2]. Each team can only be as big as the boat’s capacity. A registration fee of $100 for each individual participant is required.[2]
