Proposal
editWill add on to the page "Women in the workforce" to the section "Impact issues of female participation in the workforce". So far what I have research for it are the different reasons on why women have to leave the workforce; a reason could because they are pregnant and need to leave once they have the baby in order to rest. I need to research more on the family leave topic and need to look at more articles that talk more specifically about it. I also decided to link in the article the family and medical leave act since it gives mothers and fathers the ability to take days off in order to take care of a newborn or a sick family member.

The article talks about the family and medical leave act. The act allows for women and men to take some days off work in order to take care of a sick family member or a newborn. It indicates that the women in the workforce in numbers have increased, while men only increased during that time at about 55%. With more women in the workforce it has become difficult for both men and women to be available to take care of a new baby or a sick family member, which explain more fully on why the act was made. It indicates that many experts say that the best time for parents to be with their new baby is the first four months in order to bond, since it can help their psychological development and when it comes to their social relationships. It says also that the lack of having someone to take care of a family member who is sick in some way or cannot completely take care of themselves; is the reason on why really ill adults are being taken into nursing homes. When the caregivers are not there for them, because they are working full-time; they are put in those nursing homes faster then when the caregiver is not working. This article goes with what I am doing, because women are given with this act the ability or freedom to be able to get days off at work in order to take care of a newborn or an ill member of the family.

The article talks about the important parts of gender, family, and flexibility and why all of them are important in the academic workplace. It indicates that women's participation in the workforce has had a huge effect in it. It talks about women being able to balance their family and work in a very different way than men do. It says that family concerns not only women, but men as well. That when it comes to having balancing issues they are faced by all workers. That there are family-friendly policies now for all and both genders. It also indicates universities or colleges have began to understand between family in academia as not being the same as gender in academia. It says that women in order to balance between family and work; they decided to delay forming a family compared to men. This article goes with what I am doing, because it talks about an issue that women face which is between balancing with many tasks, such as family, work, and possibly school.

Found two resources that I could use and that have something to do with the section I am writing about. The first reference talks about the family and medical leave act of 1993 and how it is helpful for both women and men when it comes to being able to leave work in order to take care of a newborn or a sick relative. The second reference talks about how gender, family and the flexibility of them all are important when it comes to the workplace.

editWomen in the workforce have tripled and as their numbers increase it has been hard for both mothers and fathers to be able to take care of their own newborn child or a sick family member. The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 has allowed for workers to have up to 12 weeks a year to leave work. [1]
