User:Crouch, Swale/Former civil parishes

Former civil parishes in England.

These are divided into ceremonial county. After completion the ones that exist are moved to an "Exists" subpage. Those that are the same as a current parish are marked with an "=" which is often because the parish was renamed or because of alternative forms like the absence of hyphens. Category 3 and 4 parishes that have a settlement of the same name like Lee-on-the-Solent (settlement name) of Lee on the Solent (parish name) are also marked with "=".

They are categorized as either "1", "2", "3" and "4". Category 1 is parishes that have the same name an an OS settlement and the settlement is standalone. 2 is parishes that have the same name as a settlement but the settlement isn't standalone such as being a suburb of a larger settlement or conjoined with another settlement of a similar size. 3 is parishes that don't have an OS settlement of the same name but if they were pre 1974 parishes they were a rural parish at least some of their existence. 4 is parishes that were always urban parishes. If the parish excludes all or almost all of the settlement of the same name like Longwood then the title listed here will be "X (parish)" and it will be a category 3 or 4 parish. Otherwise urban parishes that have the same name as an OS settlement are category 1 or 2.

Normally a parish is treated as a continuation if it is abolished and reformed with different boundaries but has the same name like Dumbleton as well as if it is renamed but keeps the same boundaries like Cuckfield Rural>Ansty and Staplefield. If like Mangotsfield Rural>Emersons Green and Dobwalls and Trewidland>Dobwalls a parish is renamed but gets different boundaries its normally decided on a case by case basis to split or not.

All former parishes apart from those that still exist as unparished areas should have current parish, district, county, country, infobox, coordinates, image, most recent population data before being abolished and when it was abolished and where it went where possible.

These come from the parishes in the districts mentioned in the Local Government Act 1972. The rest come from UKBMD.
