The bay of Macari (pronounced with emphasis on the third to last syllable /ˈma.ka.ri/ or /ˈma.ka.ɾɪ/ in sicilian) is a reduced natural inlet along the north-western coast of Sicily, extended from the eastern side of Mount Cofano to Capo San Vito, in the territories of municipalities of Custonaci and San Vito Lo Capo.[1]
Geographical location
editIt is located in the northern coast of Sicily and it's facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. The coast is preceded by the gulf of Bonagia and the nature reserve oriented Mount Cofano and continues after Capo San Vito with the Gulf of Castellammare. On the side of Mount Cofano there is an old al lato di monte Cofano vi è un'antica almadraba, that of Cofano. The sandy bay is called Santa Margherita.
The village
editAt its centre there is the seaside village of Màcari, which names the gulf. It's a fraction of the borough of San Vito lo Capo, roughly 4 km distant from the municipal capital, and it has around 450 inhabitants.[2] At the beginning there is the fraction of Castelluzzo (around 8 km).
