User:ClaudeReigns/Notes/Black friends defense

The black friends defense or the I Have Black Friends defense is an attempt to deflect criticism, especially surrounding the use of a perjorative towards African-Americans. Citing one's associations is done in an attempt build credibility as being diverse and so as not to appear racist. The defense, however, can apply to other races, creeds, and religions. It is seen by as a pitfall towards constructive dialogue with the group.[1]
