The ingredients of ice cream are sugar, cream, and ice. [1]

For my research, I want to learn and contribute to the article of Anne B. Newman. Although an article exists, it is brief and not very developed. I want to expand this article in many areas. I would like to expand on the biography section, adding more about her childhood. I would like to separate the article and add more sections. I would like to have a section devoted to her education. I would like to have another section for her research and published articles. I would like to synthesize my sources and bulk up the material that is given. I hope to provide developed and properly cited information. If I can find enough information, I would also like to create a section for her honors and awards.

Bibliography

edit

I am planning to use the following sources in my article to articulate the life, research, and publications of Anne B. Newman.

  1. "An Overview of the Design, Implementation, and Analyses of Longitudinal Studies on Aging" is one of Newman's modern works, published in 2010. I will use it to provide information into her research of geriatrics and the science behind aging. [2]
  2. The Epidemiology of Aging is another one of Newman's works, in which she was a contributor. Newman theorized what aspects of age and health can be controlled. I plan to incorporate this in her article as well. [3]
  3. In "Is the Onset of Obesity the Same as Aging?" Newman addresses the connection between aging and a slower metabolism. This is another aspect of how Newman studied aging in many different facets. [4]
  4. I am planning to use this on-line news article "Anne B. Newman, M.D., M.P.H., Appointed Chair of Epidemiology at Pitt's Graduate School of Public Health," to further explain her career, credentials, and awards, which are given in this University of Pittsburg online article. [5]

Anne B. Newman

edit

Anne B. Newman M.D., M.P.H, (born 1955) is a distinguished scientist who researches Epidemiology and Gerontology. Dr. Newman's primary focus of study is on atherosclerosis, longevity and what specific factors allow for people to thrive while aging. She is well-versed in the subjects of cardiovascular disease, sarcopenia, and the body's physical and mental functions. She is currently working as a Principle Investigator on clinical trials for the National Institute on Aging (NIA).[6] Her previous studies include The Health, Aging and Body Composition Study (1996-2011), and Center for Againg and Population Health-Prevention Research Center (2010-2015). Her current studies include Lifestyle and Independence for the Edlery (2009-2016), ASPirin to Reduce Events in the Elderly (2009-2016), The Long Life Family Study (2004-2019), and the CHS All Stars Study (Exceptional Aging: 12 Year Trajectories to function (2004-2016). [7]

Dr. Newman currently serves in two position at the University of Pittsburgh's. She is the chair of the Department of Epidemiology and the director of the Center for Aging and Population Health. [6] This center features a CDC Prevention Center which is acclaimed for its training of doctoral fellows in the Epidemiology of Aging, which was recognized with the NIA National Service Award. The CDC Newman currently teaches four classes at the University of Pittsburgh: Advanced Epidemiology of Aging, Biology and Physiology of Aging, Writing in Epidemiology: Manuscripts and Grants, and Epidemiological Basis for Disease Control. Newman is a member of the Delta Omega Honor Society in Public Health and the American Epidemiology Society. Dr. Newman's highest qualification are in geriatric medicine and her certification is through the American Board of Internal Medicine. [7]

Education

edit

In 1978, Newman graduated from the University Pittsburgh with a bachelor's degree in biology. She earned her MD in 1982,from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine. Newman completed her residency at Presbyterian University Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She continued to serve at this same hospital for her fellowship in geriatrics. Upon completion of her fellowship in 1987, Newman also received her Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. [7]
