The Master of Religion degree (abbreviated MRel) is a theological degree granted by Wycliffe College in Toronto, Canada. The degree is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS).[1] Wycliffe College is a founding member of the Toronto School of Theology, which is federated with the University of Toronto, and as such, the MRel degree is awarded conjointly by these three institutions.

The MRel is designed as a preparatory degree for doctoral studies in a related field, or for persons intending to serve in a broad range of ministries such as "teaching, research, Christian journalism, translating, and social service."[2] It is a three year, thirty credit program. The degree requirements include core courses in theology, biblical studies, Christian history, the relationship between the church and the world, and a biblical language, as well as the completion of a 25,000 word thesis comparable to that required by the Toronto School of Theology MA program.[3][4] The degree program allows for an unusually high number course electives compared to other ATS-accredited masters degrees, granting the program great breadth and/or depth; for example, the elective space allows for the possibility of conjointly completing a diploma program from one of the other Toronto School of Theology schools.
