My name is Chuck Hawley and I live in Santa Cruz, CA. I am an active boater, and most of my postings are likely to be related to boating or sailing or boating safety. I have worked in the marine industry for about 30 years. In that capacity, I wrote most of the "West Advisor" articles that appear in the older West Marine catalogs. I also lecture on boating safety, and I am a US Sailing Safety at Sea Moderator for safety seminars, and serve as the Chairman of the US Sailing Safety at Sea Committee.

I am very interested in small boat anchors, and have tried to weigh in on the subject on Wikipedia, but it is so contentious that I don't think I have the resilience.

Many years ago, I earned a Commercial and Flight Instructor certificate for gliders, and instructed for a few years in Southern California. Therefore, I have also submitted some edits in the Gliding and Soaring pages.

I wrote an entry on Fallen Leaf Lake, California, where I have spent many enjoyable summers. In August of 2007, I added several wire frame models of the depth contours of the lake, which were removed since they were Original Research. Oh well; I guess I need someone to verify my study of the lake contours.

My wife Susan and I have also had a Foster Home for infants for about 10 years. Not sure if I will weigh in on that topic, though.
