Virtual campus refers to an online school where students attend, participate, and learn through the use of technology. Teachers and students use a variety of learning management systems to be able to participate in the virtual campus. These new campuses provide everything a brick-and-mortar campus provides with the only difference being its delivery on-line. In the past 10 years enrollement has exploded into the virtual campus ranging from kindergarden to major universities. Studnets around the world are now participating in virtual classrooms to receive their education.

These virtual schools have been around since the early 1800's prior to the internet. Theses schools were developed from correspondence schools, in which information was delivered by two-way radio or taped television prodcasts. This was very popular for homeschooling students. With the introduction of new technology such as Blackboardand Sharepoint these schools are fast becoming the way of the future of education.
