The Lovely Sisterhood of Chi Delta Sigma (ΧΔΣ) Sorority, Inc.
“First on campus first in history”
Chi Delta Sigma (ΧΔΣ) Sorority Inc., also known as CDS or ChiDSigs, is the first and only Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Interest Sorority. Although this organization does put an emphasis on AAPI values, this sorority is not AAPI-exclusive. Many of our sisters have developed their global perspective through travel, between leisurely adventures, charity trips, and general relocations. Our sisters have left their marks on five of the seven continents, 27 countries, and almost all 50 states!
Internally, the sorority uses the term "womxn" instead of "woman" or "women"; Similarly, it uses "sxsters" in place of "sisters". Similar terminology has been adopted by other multi-cultural organizations to promote inclusivity.
History
In the fall of 2006, three lovely ladies came together in pursuit of creating an Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) interest sorority at Washington State University (WSU). All three ladies had considered joining a sorority at WSU but found none that was geared toward the AAPI culture. As very active members of the AAPI community on campus, their idea of creating a home for the ladies of this community soon came to action. It was their vision to bring women of all Asian and Pacific nationalities together, strengthen their bonds, educate, and teach them about the community that surrounded them. All three women were determined to fulfill their vision and were dedicated to creating such a sisterhood. On February 8, 2007, the Lovely Sisterhood of Chi Delta Sigma Sorority was founded at Washington State University (Pullman campus). On June 8, 2007, Chi Delta Sigma Sorority became established, and the three lovely ladies Jackie B., Nicole C., and Noelle V., were officially initiated as the founders. The Lovely Sisterhood Chi Delta Sigma was then incorporated at Washington State University on February 8, 2017.
CDS values personal and professional development through their pillars: Academic Excellence, Leadership, Awareness, Diversity, and Sisterhood. Its philanthropic focus is Alzheimer's Disease & Breast Cancer awareness, and issues that women confront while developing a better understanding of what it means to be women. They are also dedicated to providing a strong sisterhood amongst all individuals, empower them as leaders, and support their academic aspirations.
Purpose
"The purpose of the Lovely Sisterhood of Chi Delta Sigma Sorority, Incorporated is to: provide a support group for those in need of sisterhood; shape their true characters; give them a foundation for personal growth; and bring guidance in academic excellence."
Impact
As a sorority, we strive to instill passion into our members. Passion for arts, different careers, women's equality, and other fields unique to individual sisters. We firmly believe in the "quality over quantity" mantra and strive to develop women that leave a lasting impact on their community. What our sorority lacks in numbers is over compensated tenfold in impact.
Philanthropy
CDS has been involved in hosting "Racing for Pink" 5k to raise support for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
