1962 Daytona 500

On February 4th during the initial time trials which would set the starting line up for the twin qualifying races Glen Roberts, known as "Fireball", would set a new track record of 158.744 miles per hour average speed during his two lap run. The fast speed bested the previous record of 157.150 m.p.h. which was also held by Roberts.[1]
