Dr Chaminda Amarasekara MD(Rus) MS(Surgery) is a surgical specialist working for the Sri Lanka Navy, holding the rank of Surgeon Commander.

Education

Dr Amarasekara recieved primary education from Rahula College, Matara and secondary education from D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo. During his school days, he was honored with the title of President Scout.

He graduated from First Pavlov State Medical University of St Petersburg, Russia.

Thereafter, he trained in Underwater medicine at the Institute of Naval Medicine, India and qualified as a Diving Medical Officer.

Dr Amarasekara earned his MS (surgery) at the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, India after completing Surgical Residency at the Armed Forces Medical College, India.

Academics

He completed the hesis titled “To study and correlate clinical and microbiological profile in patients with symptomatic cholelithiasis” for his post-graduation. During surgical residency he engaged in teaching of undergraduate medical students, MSc military nursing students, and paramedical students.

At the 76th Annual National Conference of the Association of Surgeons of India, he presented a paper titled “A clinical study of outcomes following ESWL for renal stones”.

At the 3rd Annual Scientific Sessions of College of Military Medicine Sri Lanka, he presented a paper titled "Clavicular hook plate in the treatment of acromioclavicular joint injuries and lateral clavicle fractures in physically active military population".

Presently he works at the Orthopedic Unit, Navy General Hospital Colombo, Sri Lanka and is a council member of Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine.
