Eniola Korty Olanrewaju (born April 2, 1998) better known as Korty EO is an Indie Filmmaker and YouTuber from Nigeria. Her videos are character and experience driven. She gained recognition towards the end of 2020, when she told the story of how she quit her job to start a YouTube channel. Since then, her channel has gained over 200,000 subscribers, the fastest any Nigerian YouTuber has grown within this timeframe. She has partnered with Spotify, SkillShare, Fenty and Flutterwave.
Early Life
editKorty spent most of her childhood in Ibadan, Nigeria. Her father originates from Western Nigeria, while her mother is from Northern Nigeria.
Education and Career
editKorty spent her first two years at Bowen University, but eventually graduated as a Computer Science major at the University of Ibadan. In high school, she would design party flyers for her friends and subsequently for start-ups within her vicinity, giving her a sense of marketing and design, which made her curious enough to pursue more modes of expression. After a year at the University, she learned how to edit videos on her phone, and started getting paid to make video ads for events, exposing her skill to a newer and broader audience. In her third year at the University, she bagged an internship with the National Cash Register, an IT solutions company. During this period, she developed an interest in how ATMs were operated and spent most of her days going on the field to operate ATMs, but quickly got distracted after getting scouted into Few Models Management, spending a year on runway shows and covers for top fashion brands.In her final year at the University, she quit modeling to focus on developing her budding love for videos. In 2018, after graduating from the University and got a job as a media creative at Zikoko Mag.She left Zikoko Mag in 2020 as a video producer to lead the content team at emPawa Africa.
YouTube Channel - Korty EO
editAt the end of 2020, she quit her job at emPawa Africa to start a Youtube channel, gaining over 10,000 subscribers by January 2021, amassing over 100,000 subscribers within a year. By March 2021, she started a character-driven show on her channel called 'Flow, with Korty', that focuses on individual experiences of Africans doing interesting things across different sectors. Her show has featured prominent figures like; Rema, Asa, Timi Ajiboye, Don Jazzy, Ayra Starr, Blaqbonez, Niyi Okeowo and Netta amongst others.
Recognition and Achievements
editKorty grew an outstanding portfolio in the space of two years by working on projects with top brands like; Nike, Google Arts and Culture, Big Brother Naija, Coachella, GT Bank, Keeks, Spotify and Fenty to mention a few. By the middle of 2021, she spoke about her growth as a YouTuber at Stanford University and got nominated for the Pulse Ng YouTuber of the year award. She broke the internet once again when she told the story of how she spent 3 days waiting at a popular hotel in Lagos trying to feature Nigeria's biggest superstar, Wizkid, on her show.
