Source 1 listed above discusses how different solvents affect the Grignard reaction, and in some cases, can improve the chemoselectivity of the Grignard reaction. This will contribute to our discussion of reagents which increase the chemoselectivity of the Grignard reaction.

Source 2 listed above discusses the affect of cerium chloride on the chemoselectivity of the Grignard reaction. This article will contribute to our discussion on how cerium based reagents contribute to the Grignard reaction's chemoselectivity.

Source 3 listed above elaborates on the function of the Knochel Grignard. This will be a valuable source for our discussion on the Knochel Grignard in the section on chemoselectivity we will be adding.

We plan on improving our selected article by adding:

  • How using Lewis Acids (e.g. Cerium) can influence where a Grignard reagent will react when multiple positions are possible.
  • How Grignards and other organometallics need to be in anhydrous conditions with no acidic protons to avoid self-quenching.
  • Knochel Grignards, and chemoselective formation of Grignards.

Additionally, we will be making the following changes:

  • We have already been using Brogan methods to make the existing article more concise and technical.
  • We have also been adding citations for uncited assertions within the article.
  • The article seems to be structured well, but more subtopics can be added based on the three topics listed in Question 3.
    • Anhydrous conditions
    • Subtopic on chemoselectivity
  • The article has an adequate number of images, but more specific examples or images can be added for the subtopics we will add. These images could help to explain the mechanism and uses of the additional chemoselective reagents to the Grignard reaction or the anhydrous conditions used for grignard reactions.
