Simley High School wrestling team is a nationally renowned program located in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. Simley has spent seven of the last ten years ranked in the top twenty-five nationally. It is a Scholastic wrestling program also commonly known as folkstyle wrestling. The program was founded by Jim Short, a teacher at Simley High School, in 1970. It took only seven years for the program to claim its first state place winner, and a year after in 1978 Jim Trudeau claimed the first individual state title in school history. In 1987 Simley High School became a relevant name in Minnesota wrestling by claiming its first team state championship. Simley is now regarded as an elite program on the national wrestling scene. Simley wrestling continues to thrive year after year with teams winning state wrestling championships and athletes winning individual wrestling championships.

Coaches

There have been only two head coaches in Simley history, and they have made it a family affair. Jim Short ran the program from 1970 until 1998 when he handed the reins over to his son Will Short. Will is a former All-American wrestler at the University of Minnesota. Jim Short came back onto the staff as an assistant coach in 2009, and remains on staff. Jim Short was named co-head coach of the year with son Will for the 2009-10 season. Jim was also named to the Minnesota wrestling hall of fame in 1990. The prestige of coaches at Simley High School doesn't stop there, many former college wrestlers of note have joined the staff at times.
