J.Salib (b.1980) is a former semi-professional wrestler, better known by his ring name, "The Firehawk".
Salib was part of a now-defunct Canadian developmental territory sponsored by the former World Wrestling Federation.
To safeguard the industry which was still loosely “kayfabe” at the time, performers were not scripted nor were matches predetermined.
Due to the somewhat clandestine nature of the territory, rings were unmarked and WWF signage was often (conspicuously) absent - although official championship belts were used, bearing striking resemblance to their professional (televised) counterparts.
It’s unclear what the Federation’s ambitions were for expansion across Canada, however the project was ended shortly after Salib’s departure in 1997, likely due to Titan’s financial woes and liability concerns during that era.
Salib wrestled a series of dark matches, remaining undefeated, from 1995-early 1997. He became the first (and last) Canadian Heavyweight champion for the province of Ontario, defeating Mike Flockerman in a tournament to capture the championship. Salib successfully defended the title during the spring up until his departure.
The “Firehawk“ name was derived from the St. Ignatius of Loyola Secondary School mascot (the Hawk) - the school attended by Salib at the time.
The Firehawk persona involved brightly colored leather attire, adorned in “Firehawk” insignia. Often, his ring entrance involved riding a motorcycle to the ring to Van Halen’s “Seventh Seal” which was released circa 1995.
