Florentino Mesa, is a professional of extraordinary and versatile abilities in Television and Radio. He is a nationally recognized Radio News Producer and Talent with a career expanding more than 28 years and a valuable aquired experience in Colombia and the United States working for several prestigious media corporations.
His career as a radio announcer began in Colombia in 1979 with many enriching experiences. Among them, the activity that put him into the national and international spotlight in 1981 was when he set a worldwide record after broadcasting 100 continuous hours on the air for the radio station “Duitama La Voz de Los Libertadores” which earned him a place in the Guiness World Records Book as well as a recognition from the City Council of Tópaga in Colombia, declaring him to be a role model for the young people.
From 1983 to 1998 he worked for several important radio stations in Colombia such as: RADIO MELODIA , RADIO SANTA FE , RADIO CARACOL , and RADIO SUPER , as well as RADIO UNICA , UNIVISION and G.R.L. NETWORKS in the United States. During all these years of unrelentling dedication to his profession Mr. Mesa achieved a high level of accomplishment, which is evidenced by a degree of skill and recognition significantly above what is ordinarily encountered. In that regard in 1988 he was the recipient of a recognition issued by the City Council of Duitama in Colombia.
In 1998, he decided to further develop his career by taking on new and greater challenges. In consequence, he set out to the United States as a Press Correspondent in New York for Cadena Super. His determination and absolute dedication to work, as well as his talent opened the doors to new opportunites hosting many radio shows for Spanish-speaking audiences in New York as sports narrator and other projects. Shortly afteward, he was recruited by Radio Unica where he became News Director. In May 2005, the Washington-based “Organizacion Iberoamericana de Periodistas” O.P.I./Iberoamerican Journalists Association unanimously decided to name him “Character of the Year” as stated in a letter by the President of the Organization, Alvaro Julio Martinez,
During the expanse of his career, Mr. Mesa had the opportunity to cover international news of high impact , among the most important are the coverage of the terrorist attack to the Twin Towers, in 2001, and huricane Katrina just to name a few.
In 2005 Mr. Mesa was honored with Spain’s ONDAS Award in its 52th Edition- Iberoamerican Radio and TV Chapter in the cathegory for “Best News Coverage” granted to Radio Caracol’s extraordinay news team, of which he was the key element, for the uninterrupted coverage of the path and aftermath of Huricane Katrina in Miami during 2005.
In 2004 , Extravision hired him as news presentator for the prestigious television channel UNIVISION 67, giving him the extraordinary opportunity to embark in a field that he has always dreamed about, TV news narrator. Currently Mr. Mesa is the promotional voice of Grupo Latino de Radio / Latin Radio Group and his voice is casted to several countries. In adition he is the newscaster of “Noticiero Centroamericano” /Centroamerican News for Channel 27 in Los Angeles, California.
