The Legend of Ayar Uchu

edit

After the death of their brother Ayar Cachi, the seven Incas (Manco Capac, Ayar Auca, Ayar Uchu, Mama Ocllo, Mama Huaco, Mama Ipacura, and Mama Raua) came upon Huanacauri. In Huanacauri they came upon a huaca, which was a human shaped place of worship. They decided to seize it and Ayar Uchu offered to be the one to do it. Ayar Uchu, showing his courage, decided to stand upon the shoulders of the huaca and asked what it did there. Because Ayar Uchu was standing upon the huaca, the statue could not see who was speaking to it. After trying to get off of the statue, Ayar Uchu realized his feet were stuck upon its shoulders. Ayar Uchu told his siblings that it was for them that he had approached the statue and requested that because he was now prisoner of the huaca that he be honored in festivals and ceremonies in return for his sacrifice. After promising that he would give gifts of valour, nobility, and knighthood to the youths, Ayar Uchu turned to stone[1].
