BucInExile: The Life edit

Sports edit

High school football official since 2002. High school basketball official since 1995, although I consider the recently completed season to be my last basketball season, as I wish to concentrate solely on football from now on. As an adjunct to my football duties, I periodically work on the chain crew for University of North Carolina football games. It's not that I'm a Tar Heel fan, but it's a great seat in the house and they serve SUPERB barbecue before the game.

I love playing Weekend Warrior-type basketball and football, but as I keep getting bigger and slower, my limited skills continue to get more limited. I need to start running or something to get in shape.

I have also played fantasy football since about 1994. I have been a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since the Doug Williams/Kevin House/Lee Roy Selmon days, almost the beginning of the franchise. I consider Tony Dungy the true coach of the 2003 Super Bowl champs. When I moved away from the Tampa area in 2000, I made my Internet name "BucInExile", since I consider myself a Tampa-area native for rooting purposes only.

Religion edit

I grew up in the church of Christ (non-institutional), with all sorts of family as preachers (uncles, father, grandfather) and/or Florida College alumni. I continue to be an active member of the church of Christ here where I live, but I am part of a growing number of Christians who are really questioning the legacy of the "battle" mentality of the previous generations. I believe we have often elevated human invention to the level of Scripture, and that to make matters worse, we haven't shown love to our "opponents" while doing it. We have paid tremendous amounts of attention to issues like the church treasury (a concept foreign to the New Testament), while ignoring passages about church unity (approximately 98% of the New Testament). I consider myself a truth-seeker, and I think that truth is to be found in personal holiness and consecration more than orthodox ritual. Are you bored reading this yet?

Hobbies edit

I love a good game of Civilization (I've played all four Civ games, ever since the first one in what, 1991?). I also love Star Wars games like Jedi Knight and Knights of the Old Republic. I loved Half-Life 2. I loved City of Heroes, but hate paying money every month. I play all my games on the PC because I hate console controllers. I do play Madden '05 for PS2, and I admit I play Lego Star Wars when my son goes to bed.

I TiVO a few shows: 24, Smallville, Justice League Unlimited. Mostly I watch sports, though, and Law and Order reruns.

I'm a really bad golfer, although I continue to throw good money after bad, mainly because my best friend/boss likes to play every Friday. If I must, I must.
