Johanna E.M.H. (Annelies) van Bronswijk (1946), daughter of the owner of a plumbing company, earned a PhD in Biology in 1973 and worked at the Radboud University (formerly: Nijmegen Catholic University) on allergy in relation to mites, fungi, insects and dwelling hygiene, Utrecht University (formerly: Utrecht State University) on dermatology and allergy in relation to medically relevant mites, insects, fungi and plants, also in relation to ventilation of houses, and Eindhoven University of Technology on health in relation to the built environment and gerontechnology (technology for the ageing society). At the last two universities mentioned, also as full professor. She has a long-time interest in exercise by older adults, as it is related to both gerontechnology and her recreative training in karate and ITF-taekwondo since 1969. Other recreative skills include genealogy, heraldry and local history.
