Prophet of lies is a musical project started in 2021 by Italian songwriter Filippo Braccini.
He started posting on soundcloud that year, recording voice and guitar with his iphone’s microphone and producing drums, bass and other occasional instruments with the DAW n-track9.
The project’s first album (Unfelt, unheard, unseen) was only released on soundcloud and is still not available on any other platform. This experiment merged mostly doom metal, goth rock and metalcore influences although refernces to nu metal and black metal can be found heavily between the tracks.
The second album, Soulhalved, was released in 2022 after a period of loss and depression. This marks a notable change of direction in Prophet of lies’ musical choices: tracks like forever, daydreaming, healers need healing 2 merge lofi sound quality, easy loopy riffs and loads of reverb, echo and fuzz.
Better dead came out at the end of that year with a clear will to re-establish a deeper bond with the core of the musical project: doom metal and industrial metal. Here, with the experience gained from producing Soulhalved, the artist has been able to create his first heavy milestone and release an interview with indie music spot.
Next came Witches Brew!! In 2023. It is a 21 tracks “compilation” of mostly old material reissued. The album was meant to be a collection of positive vibes to trip to and, as a trip, proceeds in unexpected ways bringing energy, then pausing to think, then chilling….
Nuthin’ Xpress came out at the end of 2023 right before POL’s first public exhibition in Florence (unplugged in Chiodo Fisso). Here we see him experiment with acoustic songwriting as never before, moving in indie and ambient spaces, showcasing ballads such as Anxiety and a composition on piano (manic depression).
2024 opens with Tripslaver, 9 tracks to tell the world POL has now refined his craft, found his voice and knows what to use it for. At last his anti-establishment message raises clearly through the lyrics, the drums are dynamic and the overall eq is for once actually professional.
Dr Downer is the last release of 2024. Influenced by reggae, trap and modern pop, it features songs such as “These thoughts of mine” together with industrial creations as “Meaningless meanings”.
