Television

edit

Commercials on television are the leading sources of sex shown in media. The most ranked companies that use sex in advertisement are Abercrombie & Fitch, Victoria’s Secret, Axe, Carl’s Junior and Dolce & Gabbana. These companies use the tactic of sexual suggestiveness to increase the consumer participation because sexual imagery to get a response from the viewer. Consequently, recent studies of television shows do contain sexual content appearing in 70% of prime-time television programs [1]

Internet

edit

The internet does not have as many censor laws than television because parents can monitor what their children watch on television and the censorship laws are increased because of the number of viewers television stations/ channels get. The World Wide Web may have several blocked sites for demographics under the age of eighteen but the vast majority do not. If a computer is not protected with software strong enough to block advertisements and malware viruses the hard-drive may fail and unwanted websites not geared toward children can be seen. Such websites that show pornographic media are unwanted sites for parents of young children due to obscenity and possible illegal content.[2] Although these sites contain sexual content, it does provide an outlet for both men and women to express levels of sexual suggestiveness and exploration.

edit

Both television and the internet are paid by companies to show their product to increase funding. One of the main reasons for advertisements and commercials are for the sole purpose of consumerism. Studies have shown that one of the major tactics of companies trying to sell their product is by the use of sexual appeal or sexual suggestiveness. This technique is used to get a physical and emotional response from the viewer and to increase memory retention and comprehension.[3]
