Bodi Hui Dr. Bodi Hui is a scientist from academic and industrial bases to work on food science in P. R. China. He was known by many professionals who worked on carotenoid chemistry due to his achievement in carotenoid industrial base in his country. In 2003, Dr. Hui developed a technique to produce natural lycopene from tomato skins and scaled it up successfully in the central Asian part of China. This factory was the first manufacturer in the world to extract natural lycopene by supercritical carbon dioxide as primary extracting medium at industrial scale. Short-path molecular distillation was also properly applied to purify the extracts. This factory was therefore considered to produce food ingredient by ‘pure physical method’. Its products were absolutely solvent-free and therefore with the best safety. In following years, he developed a number of industrial techniques to produce natural fucoxanthin, zeaxanthin and beta-crptoxanthin successfully in P. R. China. Dr. Hui wrote a book in 2005 with the title of ‘Carotenoid chemistry and biochemistry’. This book introduced the knowledge of carotenoid chemistry to P. R. China. Dr. Hui received his B.S. from the department of biology, Peking University, P. R. China and PhD from biochemistry department, University of Liverpool, UK.
