Simone is a five-piece modern rock band from Satellite Beach, FL, United States. Formed in 2007 by Simone Star(nee:Taylor). An accomplished singer, songwriter and guitarist, Simone was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in both Detroit, and across the border in Windsor, Ontario. She has been singing since she was a child, and after prep school took classes at the performing arts Center for Creative Studies in Detroit.

History

edit

Simone's first lead singing role was with the alternative rock/lounge band Punch-n-Kitty in the mid to late nineties. Between 1993-96, Simone was the lead singer for the Detroit underground group Teknotika.

Born of mixed race, African American and French, Simone was originally signed to the legendary Detroit-based [Underground Resistance label] in 1995.[1] Along with musician/producer [Gary martin][2], this electronica act performed in various clubs and venues throughout the Midwest as well as overseas in Denmark, Holland and the UK. Their single "Universal Love" was an underground dance hit in nightclubs in Scotland, and their earlier track ‘Take Me" was a hit with New York DJ’s and saw considerable rotation at the Sound Factory nightclub.

Leaving the Detroit techno scene for the Florida lifestyle, her follow up album On My Way was a complete departure from her previous break-beat recordings. Featuring artists [Billy Van Riper][3] on guitar, and Ron Pirtle on bass, On My Way proved to be an eclectic record of 12 original songs written by Simone with the exception being jazz-standard: Moon Glow. The result was a laid back, beach-jazz feel that began to fully showcase her unique vocal abilities.

Simone's second album, titled Talk To The Rose was released on the 17 July 2006, on Mama Spiritual Records, a record label formed by Simone. Continuing to explore her vocal abilities and songwriting talents, this album would be the precursor to the heavier sound that we now associate her music with. In 2007, Simone released her [award-winning][4] third album Temporary Heaven.
