Dda (also known as DNA-dependent ATPase, Dda helicase, Dda DNA helicase) is the 49,897 Dalton 439 amino acid polypeptide coded by the Dda gene of the Enterobacteria phage T4.


Biochemistry

Dda hydrolyzes ATP in and only in the presence of substrate single stranded DNA. Dda binds its substrate (ssDNA) and processively translocates in a 5' to 3' direction in an ATP-dependent manner. In other words, Dda couples ATP hydrolysis and ssDNA translocation.
