The Pontus Greek Society, which their headquarters were located in Samsun, was an association that has worked to establish a Pontus Republic in Trabzon (Trebizond), Samsun (Pontic Greek: Sampsúnta) and other North Anatolian provinces.
Establishment and activities
editThe society is one of the non-Muslim societies such as Hınçak and Taşnaksütyun operating in this period.[citation needed] The society got its name from Pontus, the old name of the Black Sea region in ancient times.
Under the conditions brought by the Mondros Armistice, the Greeks started propaganda activities to establish a state and established a newspaper called Pontus.
