Clavo in 2005

Zinnia Clavo (born 25 March 1961), also known as just Zinnia,[1] is a Spanish painter.

Early life

Zinnia Clavo was born on 25 March[2] 1961 in Madrid, Spain.[1] She was born into a family of artists; being the daughter of the enamel artist Ángela Escribano and the multidisciplinary artist Javier Clavo.[1][2] She has two sisters, the elder sister Petunia and the younger sister Oleander.[2]

Clavo began to experiment with art in her childhood and had under the supervision of her parents developed her own artistic style by the age of 11.[1][2]

Clavo graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1984, having studied literature, philosophy and art history[1] and earning a Bachelor of Art History.[2] She was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985 and went on to continue her studies for two years at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts and the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. Clavo earnt a Master of Fine Arts through her studies in Poland.[1][2]

Career

Clavo held her first exhibition at the Orfila Art Gallery in Madrid during her university studies.[2] Her work was also exhibited at galleries in Poland during her studies in Kraków.[1]

Her work has been exhibited at several solo and group exhibitions in France, England and Spain.[1]

Clavo has participated in international and national art fairs.[1]

She has won many awards.[1]
