Poultry Hub is a WordPress-based site developed by the Poultry Cooperative Research Centre. Initially set up as a wiki-based site with the aim of providing a collaborative online environment for people involved or interested in poultry production, particularly farmers, industry personnel and researchers, it now is maintained by the Poultry CRC, but remains open to submissions via the CRC.

The site contains information that can assist people with education and training opportunities relevant to a career in the poultry industry or supporting industries.

providing a flexible, innovative mechanism for technology transfer to Australian poultry farmers and industries as well as information transfer to the community.

History

edit

Established online networks of knowledge and information provide robust environments where farmers, industry personnel, researchers and the community can increase their knowledge of poultry and poultry production. Designed to complement and support these networks, Poultry Hub was developed to satisfy the need for an easily accessible hub outlining both the scope of universally available poultry-related information as well as education and training opportunities relevant to poultry production.[1]

Software

edit

Current: Poultry CRC staff maintain Poultry Hub via the popular WordPress platform. In late July 2012 a new custom template was designed for Poultry Hub to enable better site navigation.

Historical: Like Wikipedia, the operation of Poultry Hub depends on MediaWiki, a custom-made, free and open source wiki software platform. As with other wikis, registered users of Poultry Hub are encouraged to participate in its continued development by editing the content. Poultry Hub also includes event promotion and news tools that integrate with the wiki software.
