I'm (2001-Present) currently a running start student majoring in Mathematics and a dancer. Fun fact, I'm ancestrally Vietnamese, but I started to speak English more than Vietnamese since I was four. Therefore, basically, I really don't have the first language because I only talk Vietnamese at home, and the rest is English. I read a lot, like really a lot, especially non-fiction novel and diary-related books. As I mentioned before, I am a dancer for nearly 8 years; however, I took a break right now to focus totally on my studying.

I've been using Wikipedia for a long time, but the idea of editing it never appeared in my mind until I came into my current English class. It is fascinating to think about I could change something on Wikipedia because I used to search for different thing everyday, which means I use Wikipedia the whole time. Sometimes, I read something that I know exactly what it actually is, but the content is not right, so it irritates me the whole time. It's good to know that I could change the content on Wikipedia.

Article Review

edit

As I said in my bio, books play an essential role in my life, especially the memoir and diary-related books. Moreover, Youtube is also part of my life, so I gave a chance to read a book called from a famous youtuber Connor Franta. Therefore, I put my two interests together and visited the Note To Self (book) page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: its wrong genre, its lack of summary and its lack of rating from different sources.

Wrong Genre

edit

The first thing I notice whenever I get into a book review page is its genre. I've read this book three times, and I agree that this book's genre is memoir and poetry; however, I'm not really sure if it is considered an LGBT type of book because throughout the book there is only one tiny part that the author tells about the depression and hard-feeling of his coming out story. The author Connor Franta tells various stories of his teenage life in which his coming out is part of the memoir; moreover, he is gay does not mean that his entire book is about LGBT. So I think the LGBT in the genre is unnecessary.

Summary of the Book

edit

I was turned off while reading this page because there was no summary of the story. There was some information about the book about the types such as stories, poems, photographs, and letters; however, I got no more information about what is the book about except for "his experiences of depression and social anxiety" after reading the page. The book is not just about his depression and anxiety as a teenager, but also about his first love and the life behind the light of his Youtube career, which is not shown on cameras.

Rating

edit

The page does indicate some ratings from various sources; for example, Common Sense Media, New York Times and Australia's the Sunday Age. However, there are still some rating I want to put into the page such as Goodreads gave this book 4.14 over five stars, and the Common Sense Media rates this as a 14+ book.

Summary

edit

All in all, this page does provide some information but not really much; therefore, I would like to see some improvement in the book's summary because summary is the most important strategy whenever a reader wants to try a new book.
