I moved onto Alcatraz Island in the summer of 1953.

We moved into "64 Building," a late 1800s army barracks used for housing soldiers. Our own apartment was on the top, (3rd ) floor Northwest corner. My bedroom was the hallway to the bathroom, not enough room on either side of the single bed to stand so I had to climb over the footboard to get into bed. It was a two bedroom apartment so of course my one year older sister moved into the second bed room and I was consigned to the hallway.--Bdollis (talk) 03:30, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
