In Runescape, you can be banned for bug abuse (Rule 4). On November 19th 2006, 2 days before the release of Runescape new skill called Hunter, there was a major ban of players (at the very least over 2000) for using bug abuse.
This time, the bug abuse enabled players to cheat and steal wealthy people expensive items unfairly. We will try to explain you how to do the bug and it's different variations. Note that it wasn't verified if you still could do this bug, but we highly suggest you don't as you will most likely get banned. If you were a scammer, you would do the bug on a noobish account to learn how to do it.
How to do the first part of the bug: To do this bug, you first had to join a game of Castle wars. Then you had to walk in the corner of your base respawn. After you set yourself to running mode, you would press on the portal (used to quit the game of Castle wars), but, before you reach it, you would log out. Then, you would log in. You would find yourself in Castle wars waiting room (used to wait until a Castle wars game begins). You would then put yourself back in running mode, then press once again on the portal you see, but you would log out before you reach it. Finally, you just have to log back in and the bug was succesfull.is now done.
What you would see: Once you log back in, you find yourself out of Castle Wars mini game. However, you still see Castle wars menus, you still see information saying your ennemies stole the flag. When you right-click on someone's character, you would even have the option to attack him. However, you would get the message that you were not in wilderness.
Now you know how to do the bug, you need a victim. A rich, very rich victim. It also has to be a good friend of yours or he may not trust you. There's an example: Two weeks before the massive ban, Duby1250 invited Bambinos to the game of Castle wars. The two of them were very good friends and they would often do things together in the game. Bambinos was a true veteran to the game, having played it over 5 and a half years. He also was very rich, he had over 700 millions worth of cash and items, including his very precious blue party hat. Therefore, Duby1250 told his good friend Bambinos to do the steps of the first part of the bug we mentionned (see higher). Bambinos had no idea it was a bug, he had no idea it was illegal. The bug taking only a few clicks, Bambinos, in his innocence, did it. A very bad idea as you will see later. Ps: Note that Duby1250 never did the bug, although Bambinos thought he had done it too
How to do the second part of the bug:
So, after you did the first part of the bug, the game thinks you are still in Castle wars, right? And what happens at the end of the 20 minutes of a Castle wars mini-game? Yes, you get teleported back to the Castle wars room.
However, before that happens, you will do the following things. You go to the Duel arena, and you and your partner (for example Bambinos and Duby1250) engage in a duel. Then you have to wait the remaining time of the 20 minutes Castle Wars mini-game.
Once the Castle wars game is over, something very interesting will happen. The person (Bambinos) who did the bug will get teleported back to castle wars, but his duel arena partner (Duby1250), him, will stay in the duel arena, alone, without his opponent. Then it starts to get ugly. His partner (Bambinos) will go back to the duel arena and Duby1250, who knew that would happen, will, with his Ancient magick and all his arsenal of spells, attack Bambinos from inside the duel arena.
To make things more clear, this is what COULD happen: Duby1250 is inside the duel arena. Bambinos is outside the duel arena, at the bank chest. Duby1250 attacks Bambinos with ancient magick from inside the duel arena. Bambinos is panicked, has no food, can't move, can't log out. He dies and loses his precious items (for instance his blue party hat). Duby1250 logs out, logs back in and takes all of Bambinos items.
THE BEST PART OF THIS BUG: Runescape Ltd has a very good security program. On November 19th 2006, it does a detection of all the people who did the bug, and Runescape instantly bans them all. No second chance for any of them. Bambinos, the victim of this story, was the person who did the bug. Therefore, he was permanently banned with no second chance, although he only had 1 black mark after 5,5 years of play, being one of Runescape oldest players. Duby1250, the scammer of so many people, never did the bug (on this account at least) and continues to play happily with the items of so many innocently banned account
