The Legion of St. Stephen (Hungarian: Szent István Légio) (Russian: Легион Святого Иштвана) is an organization of Hungarian traditionalists fighting on the side of the Donbass separatists. They got involved in the early stages of the war in Donbass.

The legion first appeared online in 2014 when it was referred to in some articles as a group of Hungarian volunteers fighting for pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. Though according to Hungarian law, it is illegal to participate in an foreign armed organization, the legion was actively recruiting online. The legion, in parallel with the Russian narrative, advocates for the Russian annexation of eastern Ukraine. The legion justifies its hostility against Ukraine by pointing out Ukraine’s aggression towards Hungarians and the Rusyn minority. Although photos of the members of the legion exist, there is very little evidence that the legions activities regarding armed conflict have ever extended outside the internet. Additionally real-life combatants have been falsely labeled as members of the legion.[1]

The Hungarian Jobbik party is known to have strong ties with the legion.[2]
