Spheroolithidae is an oofamily of fossil dinosaur eggs.
Description
editSpheroolithids are usually medium to large in size. As their name suggests, they are usually roughly spherical, though they can be up to 30% longer than their width. They can often be difficult to classify, because egg shape can vary within a single clutch, and eggshell thickness can vary significantly in a single egg.[1]
History
editThe oofamily was first named by Zhao Zikui in 1979, at which time he included three oogenera in it: Spheroolithus, Paraspheroolithus, and Ovaloolithus.[2]
