The "Velankanni matriculation and higher secondary school" at ashok nagar is one of the school campuses for the ST.Joseph's Educational Society. The Velankanni matriculation and higher secondary schools have facilities to educate students from L.K.G to Standard 12.

HISTORY

The Velankanni matriculation and higher secondary School,ashok nagar chennai was founded in the year 1975 by SRI.S.Santhanamuthu. It has a creditable record of excellence ever since it was founded. The ST.Joseph Educational Society now has three institutions in chennai

INFRASTRUCTURE

The Velankanni matric & hr.sec.School has an acceptable infrastructure for a school. There are two main buildings each divided for classes from 1st to 12th.There is a separate corridor for the kindergarden and primary students. The school also boasts a basketball court (open air) and a volleyball ground.

The school has had a steady growth in the past 33 years and now has a strength of 1050 students and 120 teachers. It is affiliated to the State Board of Secondary Education, Tamil Nadu and prepares the students for the Tamil Nadu State Board Secondary Examinations also known as board exams. The school is managed by the ST.Joseph's Educational Society. The school has held a record of securing 90% pass percentage in both the 10 th and 85% pass percentage in the 12 th exams for the past 33 years.

CO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The Velankanni matric & hr.sec.School gives equal emphasis on academics and personality development. The students have access to a wide range of activities in clubs such as:

Activities throughout the year are organized under the four houses of the school namely :

Hence,the staff members of each house play a major role in organizing various inter house competitions.

EXCELLENCE OF SCHOOL

Besides, a very good academic record Velankanni matric & hr.sec.School has also maintained a very good record in sports. There are several students of the school who have represented Chennai city in state level basketball tournaments.

The school has won state Sports awards in basketball, volleyball, cricket, kabadi and athletics and top marks are bagged by the school in acadamics.

The school also won the acclaimed competition "EXOUSIA 2008" at Madras Christian College.
