editIn Służew is located the parish church building of the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Maximilian Kolbe. The parish is named after Maximilian Kolbe. The church had been build between 1979 and 1988, and operates since 1999. It was designed by Wojciech Kowalczyk and Andrzej Ustian, with intention to resemble the Auschwitz concentration camp, where Maximilian Kolbe had died in 1941. In front of the church is placed the cross, in front of which, on 2 June 1979 at the Piłsudski Square, Pope John Paul II had organized his first mass during his first visit to Poland.[1]
