The Lagoon 55 catamaran is a French sailing catamaran that was designed by [[Van Peteghem/Lauriot-Prevost}VPLP]] (a French based naval architecture firm founded by Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prévost). First built in 1987, it was one of the earliest large cruising catamarans, designed for private owners and for the yacht charter role. The boat was built by Lagoon catamaran in Franceref name="Data">McArthur, Bruce (2023). "Lagoon 55 sailboat". sailboatdata.com. Archived from the original on 5 April 2023. The Lagoon 55 was Lagoon's first production design, with 20 boats built. It was succeeded in 2021 by a new model from the same design team. The newer model was nearly twice as the Mk.I's 13 tonnes, and was less "sporty" and more "cruiser" than the original sleek Lagoon 55. [4][5]

Design

edit

These boats were hand laid up using woven e-glass and EPOXY vacuum bagged in a mold. Some of the L55’s were also built using carbon reinforcements and Kevlar inlaid in the hulls below the waterline for abrasion resistance.
