Aren M. Maeir (1958- ), born U.S.A. (Rochester, New York), Israeli archaeologist (as of 1995 at Bar-Ilan University); directs the excavations at Tell es-Safi/Gath in central Israel, a large site identified as Canaanite and Philistine Gath. He is director of the Institute of Archaeology at Bar-Ilan University, co-director of the Minerva Center for the Relations between Israel and Aram in Biblical Times, and the director of the Ingeborg Rennert Center for Jerusalem Studies.
