AbbreviationRTM
Typemovement

The Russian Transhumanism Movement (RTM) is an officially unregistered non-governmental organization, that advocates and promotes transhumanism and scientific emmortalism emmortalism in Russia and throughout Eastern Europe. [1] RTM advances new researches and technologies [2], that has already begun revealing new connexctions, yielding such insight and inspiration into new treatement and research in Geriatrics, by rendering organized and coherent, even at a glance, such volumes of confusingly disorganized knowledge in the field.

About the Movement edit

The movement began from the website Bessmertie.ru, created by Dmitry Ryazanoy at the end of 2000 [3].

The next towards foundation of the RTM was the translation by Danila Medvedev in 2002 FAQ of various writings about transhumanism from World Transhumanist Association, into Russian for publication to various Russian websites [4]. Right away, several websites, including technical news website Cooler, website about virtual reality really.ru, and others, republished these translations.

The Russian Transhumanism Movement (RTM) was established at the dawn of the year 2003 [5]. The next watershed in further development of the RTM was the meeting of Russian transhumanists on August 2004 at The Seventh International Congress of Philosophy and Culture 'Dynamics of Values in Contemporary Culture: Reflections on Extreme & Optimal Conditions for Cultural Development convened on (August 27 – 31, 2004, St. Petersburg). http://www.spbric.org/eng/index.php?action=ev_txt&page=2#dinam A strategy was rendered for advocacy and development of transhumanist ideas in Russia, the current website was created, and all organisational documents were revised, including The Manifesto.

In January of 2005 the RTM organized the first Interdisciplinary Seminar in Transhumanism and Scientific Immortalism in Moscow. Since then, the seminar is scheduled every month with a summer break. The seminar affords transhumanists, supporters of immortality, scientists and philosophers, the opportunity face-to-face lcommunication and direct discussion from a transhumanist perspective. The first of the seminars were organized in collaboration with [[Fedorov, Nikolai Fedorovich (philosopher) | Fedorov's] movement. 16 June 2005, the seminar was registered as primary cell of the Russian Philosophical Society of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Controlling authority of the RTM, which assigns the strategy of the organization's ongoing development and performs tactical management, is the Coordinating Council consisting of two members: Valerija Pride and Danila Medvedev.

Goals edit

  • Furthering the advance of new and traditional sciences and technologies in their impact upon transhumanist and emmortalist facets of the human condition, as well as the safety of usage of these emerging technologies.

RTM activity edit

Public work edit

The RTM actively participates in society at large.

The social organization "life extension advocacy" was founded in 2006. The chairman, Mikhail Batin, is now an active member of RTM.

Among other missions of the organization is an important endeavor to acquire the funding for scientific research in an area of fundamental medicine and gerontology, biophysics, biology, biochemistry and related sciences, focusing upon research into the mechanisms of ageing of the human organism and upon finding methods of extending healthy human lifespans.

To meet this challenge, the organization gathered on April of 2007 over 30000 signatures of a petition to the president of the Russian Federation, in order to request state financing of applicable scientific researches. With active participation of the RTM Coordinating council members, Mikhail Batin wrote the popular book "Medications against aging" about the advance of emmortalist ideas culumnating in the the cutting edge of scientific achievement in this area.

On 15 March of 2007, the first magazine in Russia about tranhumanism: 'Beyond Tomorrow' began publication.

In 2011, the first Scientific research center of advanced technologies, a scientific organization that was founded by the RTM, began it's work. It includes the Medical biostasis lab and 6 other departments.

On 14 August of 2010, RTM members with the support of the Russian Association of Advocates for Human Rights resolved to open headquarters of the organization "For the right to life" in Moscow, replete with a reception room for citizens desiring to preserve and extend their lives and those of their loved ones.

On September 6, the presentation of movement "For the right to live" took place. [6]

Popularizers' activity edit

The RTM popularizes new technologies, ideas of life extension, ideas of emmortalism and transhumanism. Speakers debunk pseudoscience, expound upon promising nanotechnologies, biotechnologies, artificial intelligence, cognitive sciences, NBIC-convergence. Serious futuristic work is already under weigh.

Since January of 2005, the RTM monthly conducts the Interdisciplinary seminar on transhumanism and scientific emmortalism. the seminar is registered as a division of the Russian philosophical society.

On the agenda of the seminar, topics for consideration include rebuilding and improvement of the human species, post-industrial transhumanist development of the humankind, life extension from the point of view of the modern science; with lectures upon nanotechnology, biotechnology, cryonics, other technologies and philosophical questions of transhumanism and scientific emmortalism.

Also, similar seminars and lectures took place and continue taking place in Moscow, Omsk, Vladivostok, and St. Petersburg.

The RTM is involved in development of a schematic elucidating the process of human aging as a sequence of cause-and-effect relationships. The name of the project is the Human Aging Schematic. [8] [9]

On the 4th of August 2010 the first stage of work, hailed already as an Epistemological triumph of new lucidity, culminated in the creation of a relatively completed diagram consisting of more than four hundred units and hundreds of links and discovering hitherto unfathiomed noew connections, thereby demonstrating the possibility of unprecidented amalysis of the hitherto disorganized masses of current data, rightly called: inert knowledge, towards new theaputic interventions to the aging process and fresh new research directions. -All even at a glance!

The schematic was successfully presented at international and Russian conferences upon gerontology. Since November of 2011 год a new period of the project has begun. On February 12-17 2012 on the Gordon’s Reseach Conference «Genetics, epigenetics, inflammatories and metabolics causes of aging»[10].

The RTM group (252 computers) collaborates in the program of Stanford University Folding@Home on research of common factors of protein folding. On November 26 according to a general contribution the group takes up the 264th place of a 202067[11].

In 2007 from the publishing house URSS in the series “Conversations regarding the Future” the collected articles where published «New techologies and continuation of human evolution? Transhuman project of the future». Maslov V.M. marks that this book enabled the readers to get acquainted with Russian Transhumanists view[12].

In 2010 he published a second volume of the series "Dialogues upon the future": book of RTD's expert on global catastrophes «The structure of global catastrophe. Risks of extinction of mankind into the XXI century " A. V. Turchin.

In 2001 an important publishing project of the RTM was completed with the release of a unique collection of articles “Global Risks” edited by А. V. Turchin. The book contains the best articles of Russian and foreign authors on a given subject.

The project of the creation of a touch suit has the goal of developing and association of complex of recording devices, storage and access to touch-sensitive information, constantly derivable by people through the organs of sight and hearing, and later the organ of smell, vestibular apparatus and other, in particular absolutely new organs, considerably extending human ability.

The touch suit is a project that lies at the intersection of some areas of application, which together with other measures, taken to preserve the memory of man and about man, such as cryonics, distributed digital depositary, the networks of sharing personal information that can be called a «digital immortality». The main areas of the touch suit application are:

  • The digital prompt for biological memory is already possible nowadays without using the additional devises through the saving of all information receiving by man at the computer by means of special software (Evernote for example).

Preservation of sensory information perceived by transman, that is visual and auditory recollections at this point of time, for their delayed integration in the future;

The sensation exchange through the network.

Russian Cryocorps edit

Cryonics in Russia has developed since the middle of the 90's largely because of the tireless work of Mikhail Soloviey, Andrey Tropillo, Igor Artukhov and others.

At the beginning of a the year 2005, steps were taken towards practical implimentation from all of the research and development. On the 24th of September 2005 Danila Medvedey performed the second cryopreservation in Russia. (The first cryopreservation was performed by Igor Artukhov in 2003)

In January of 2006, the first meeting of the founders convened, and on May 3rd, 2006 the company "KrioRus" was registered, marking the beginning of active work. Coldstorage was established in the village of Alabushevo [13].

In February of 2010, a seven-minute feature upon cryonics aired on Channel [14]

By August 2nd of 2011, 17 persons, 2 cats, 4 dogs and 2 birds have been cryopreserved by the «KryoRus», in the first dewar manufactured outside of the USA for preserving bodies of cryopatients «Anabiosis-1».[15]

At the moment "KrioRus" is the only non-US company which has its own coldstorage[16][17][18]. Since September the construction of our own storage is ongoing in the Moscow area.

Events edit

RTM regularly conducts activities which attract public attention to various transhymanist topics. Here are the most significant of them.

On March 2007 the RTM participants undertook a counterpropaganda initiative against movie "The Fountain" directed by Darren Aronofsky. [19]. The main idea of action was to expose the "Fountain's" pernicious message, it's glamorization of death. Transhumanists, by contrast, exhalt life and recomend survival, working towards practical perpetual youth and imortality for humanity, or: Emortality, seeing no intrinsic good in decline and death.

A few dozen transhumanists came out to the cinemas of Moscow in order to hand out flyers to patrons at the movie premier. The motto was: "We have a right to live! We ought to have a right to abolish the death!"

The H+ Summit took place on the 12th and 13th of June at Harvard University, where over 600 scientists, writers and businessmen united by ideas of transhumanism came together. Futurologist Raymond Kurzweil spoke, and gerontologist Aubrey de Gray issued his report, as did the noted theoretician of paradise engineering, along with David Pearce and many other scientists and philosophers.

An online transmission of the Summit was organized by the RTM. The simultaneous translation of the essential lectures from English into Russian was provided. At the RTM office, the discussion about the Summit with the senior Russian scientists was organized ref>Hackers can make man immortal</ref>

The RTM takes part in law making advocacy and activism. On December 25th RTM put forward an amendment to the bill[20] « On the biomedical cell technologies », worked out by Ministry of Health and Social Development. Several protest actions on the Internet where carried out, including petitions including a proclamation by Valeria Pride [21], that garnerred one and a half thousand signatures. Some positive shifts (from the RTM perspecive) have been achieved, and the actions of the RTM continue.

On September 24th 2011 the meeting for immortality organized by the RTM conveined at the center of Moscow on Revolution Square, bringing together more then 100 people. The delegates from many Russian cities and other countries (Ucraine, Byelorussia) took part in the meeting. The meeting was covered in the media[22] [23] and in TV reportages. In the Internet the full video of the meeting is accessible[24].
