DC kick test of a Transformer ; The method is used for low voltage as well as high voltage transformer. In this method the transformer is excited with dc supply. This excitation is not continuous. It is momentary excitation. It is possible to damage transformer because very high current will flow as impedance is very low. When the dc voltage is supplied we connect a galvanometer at its secondary side. If the kick is in forward direction, secondary terminals assigned as same polarity of primary. If the kick is in backwards, secondary side should be assigned as the opposite polarity of transformer windings
