The event had to be cancelled.A Shipena Secondary School(n.d).

"Other highlights of 1987 include the implementation of English as a medium of instruction at the school. This was initially phased in non-exam subjects in response to the Minister of Education's announcement that English was to be implemented as a medium of instructions as of 1988. It led to A. Shipena to be part of the 5 pilot schools that started to implement English as a medium of instruction. The maximum capacity of 900 learners was reached during enrolment at the beginning of the year. Fifty-one of these learners were the first to sit for the matric exams. The staff consisted of 39 teachers". A Shipena Secondary School(n.d).

"1992 begined on a sad note. The school lost one of its management members, Mr. Eric Dippenaar. He was called to a higher calling on January 14, 1992.The founder principal of the school, Mr. Dan Cloete, left the school for the RSA. The first school committee of parents was elected". "A. Shipena was applauded through media as the school that donates the most blood in Namibia. CDM (NAMDEB) donated library reference books to the school. The value of the books was estimated to about N$10 000,00. Professor Fanueal Tjingaete handed the books over on behalf of CDM(NAMDEB)". A Shipena Secondary School(n.d).
