Poll
edit- Support. This is an improvement on a long-standing but ridiculous situation. It is supported both by the practical considerations of principle of least astonishment and the frequent and continuing mislinkings, and by policy and guidelines, which state that an ambiguous base name cannot be used unless the article is on the primary topic. An RfC found that New York State is not the primary topic of New York. Andrewa (talk)
Discussion
editThis RM leaves open the possibility that a future RM may move the New York City article to the base name New York, or not. In view of the incredibly messy history of this issue, it would be unwise to attempt a three-way poll at this time. This RM if approved represents at least a great improvement.
But I would suggest another voluntary one-year moratorium on the New York City -> New York RM. Let the dust settle. It has taken twelve years to create this mess. Another year before proposing the perfect solution is a good investment of time. Andrewa (talk)
