Amilema is a village in northern Namibia, inOshikoto region , found in Ondonga 30Km west of Omuthiya.

History

Amilema is an Oshiwambo name , meaning “the dark” it was found by Ruben Shimbamba in the 1960s as it headman. It was name after the thick forest ( black forest) that used to cover that area in the past. It had big and tall trees that acted as a protecting and hiding place for both wild animals and soldiers in early years.

The environment

This village support its inhabitants with building materials such as woods and grasses, which they use for building their houses and food for their animals. A large area of this village is covered by mopane and thorn trees. Soil in this village is fertile suitable for farming in the production of food for the villagers on which they mostly depend for their survival. The types of farming practiced here is mostly mixed farming and extensive farming for livestock. There are vast areas of grazing where villagers take animals for grazing during crop farming, but due to a rapid increasing population grazing land also declining. There is electricity , clean water supply and other services.

the most ideal place in Amilema is the spring although it is not well known by many, it is traditionally controlled and taken care of. Its water is used by traditional practitioners to cure stomach ache and other diseases. Other places found such as; school Niigambo combined school< href> [1] </href>, clinic, many churches, and cuca shops.
