Amathole Football Academy

edit

The Amathole Football Academy (AFA) is based in Mofolo South, Soweto. It was established in June of 2006 as a non-profit orgnisation to address the development of football in previously disadvantaged and rural areas. It has as its wider framework, the development of sport for youth athletes.

Amathole is isiZulu for 'Young Bulls' and the Academy draws its name from the cultural importance of the cow within Africa. The AFA has integrated its u17 and u20 players into the newly established SAFA Soweto Premier Leagues, which include the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Jomo Cosmos, Platinum Stars and Moroka Swallows development teams to name but a few.
