Harriet Ross Tubman, the famed 19th century underground railroad conductor, was posthumuously honored in Brooklyn with queen motherhood status on June 2, 2000. On that date, at the invitation of Nana Tubman Honor in Project founders, Linda Cousins-Newton of Brooklyn and John Watusi Branch of Queens, New York, Nana Osei Boakye Yiadom II of Adamorobe in the Akuapem Anafo Traditional Area, Ghana's first female Chief (after Nana Yaa Asantewaa) journeyed to Brooklyn with her entourage and officiated at the Tubman Enstoolment ceremony. Tubman was represented in the ceremony by her descendant, Pauline Copes Johnson of Auburn, New York, who traveled to Brooklyn with other Tubman descendants, meeting for the first time royal personages from Tubman's reputed homeland of Ghana.
