Clarence Curtis Culver was a career U.S. Army officer who played a leading role in the development of aircraft wireless radio.

On July 27, 1916, Capt. Culver set a world record for air-to-ground flash radio transmission distance when he flew from San Diego's North Island to Dominguez Field in Los Angeles, making transmissions back to San Diego every ten minutes during the entire 114-mile flight.[1]

On February 7, 1917, Capt. Culver successfully made voice radio-telephone transmissions from air to ground for the first time. [2]
