Article Draft Proposal and Bibliography

edit

I plan on adding quite a bit to this article, since it is rated start class and the topic is something that I am passionate about. There are a few sections of the article that need some work done to them. Mainly the article needs sources for information that has already been put there. However, there are some other improvements to be made. I first intend to add citations where they are needed, such as a citation and more facts about the squire telecaster version, and the esquire version of the guitar. A cheaper, alternative to a Fender Telecaster, made by the same company but in different places and/ or different parts. I also plan on adding information about the guitar’s history and not just the history of the company. The article focuses a lot on the history of Leo Fender and the company of Fender as a whole and not as much as it should on the guitar itself. An additional place I plan on adding information is on the topic of what exactly a “guitar expander” is, as there is no Wikipedia article linked to it. Finally, I plan on making the wording easier to understand. There is some terminology that I feel as If only guitarists would know and so I intend on clarifying a few sentences here and there.

2. Dave Hunter, The Fender Telecaster: The Life and Times of the Electric Guitar That Changed the World\

3. Matthew H. Hill, A brief history of Squier and the origins of fender MIJ

Hey Allie. Great proposal here. I think the online sources you've identified are fine/legit. and I like the book you've chosen by Dave Hunter. I would just recommend that you also try to find a music encyclopedia or guitar encyclopedia that could provide some more reference information to fill out this article. Check out the page in D2L with links to reference databases. https://d2l.iup.edu/d2l/le/content/2553649/viewContent/18547020/View

There's also a music database that we can look at together in our conference. Otherwise, great work. -Dr. Vetter

Here's the book we talked about today. But talk to a librarian definitely about some popular reference source.

Article Evaluation:

edit

- Article is rated start class

- Article is only 56% complete

- Article didn't meet criteria for "Music good articles" after it was nominated

- Talk page is not very active and hasn't been since 2007

- There are only 6 references

- Wikimedia commons has information that is not on the page

- There is a lot of focus on the history of the whole company and not the guitar, it seems unnecessary and was distracting from the topic

- Some of the article sounds like it has opinions in it and should be less biased

- The references aren't to reputable looking websites

- The only one that looks reputable is the book cited

- The sources also seem biased towards all the good aspects of the guitar and seem to be opinionated

- The information is up to date however

- No views are over or under represented

- This article is part of the WikiProject Guitarists group/ effort

- The article however, does do a good job informing about the topic, even if some information is slightly off topic for how narrowly focused wikipedia articles usually are.
